Rev. Raimundo Garcia FrancoThe idea of creating this institution was conceived by its founder, the Rev. Raimundo Garcia Franco, from the end of the 1960s, when the country was torn between two major crises: that caused by the abrupt change of political system and the confrontation between the atheistic policy of the new State and the Church. He is tried, unsuccessfully, to create a small Centre in the old Eastern province that serve as headquarters to reflect, from the faith, and try to promote a dialogue of reconciliation.
In 1971, having been transferred to the province of Matanzas and serving, in addition, as Director for this province of the center of studies of the Council of churches of Cuba, this religious leader cover the Reflection and dialogue newsletter and in the early 80s, exerting as pastor of the Reformed Presbyterian Church of Cardenas, promotes the creation of the first museum national of the Presbyterian reformed church in Cuba, from which he was showing the possibility of dialogue and the inclusion of the Church in society.

In the early 90s he participates in the meeting convened by the top leadership of the country with representatives of Evangelical churches, characterized by an approach of openness within the framework of a special situation of economic and social crisis which facilitates the opportune moment for the project already conceived since the 1960s.

Precisely in this context and in principle using the surrounding building strong the Church, which also was a pastor, begins to organize the first meetings, which, since its inception, were characterized by an inclusive approach and aimed, basically, to foster dialogue and reconciliation, while that channeled the entry and distribution to social institutions and very needy groups drugs, materials, supplies, blankets and clothes shipped in containers from Germany by the SODI institution, to alleviate, partially, the great hardship for the most difficult of the known special period years.

Coincidentally, occurs in these months a visit of Mr. Bernard Rostan, representative of bread for the world, who is interested in the idea of the creation of such a Center. Request to pastor an elementary descriptive project and shortly after received the first funding of the German Evangelical Church, whereupon he began specific structures of the institution, a process that was developed gradually over a decade. At the time, it continued the activities and, gradually, is would shape their community actions. The Center began with four workers and, insofar as it has diversified its work, the number of employees has increased.

The first meetings addressed a set of issues relating to the situation of women (seriously exacerbated by the so-called special period), the dignity and the human rights of persons with disabilities, conjunctural analysis of the situation of the country, problems related to family violence and sexuality, as well as senior citizens and, with great emphasis, the environmental situation in our country.

Years later began the first interventions in the order community, through a project aimed at the construction of biogas, retrieval and Assembly of windmills, reforestation and firm on the issue of agro-ecology action, aimed at encouraging the use of alternative energy sources and, in correspondence with the resources that were making community work was expanding to other municipalities and new themes of action.
From 1995 begin to establish institutional relations with several agencies, which enabled the signing of triennial and quadrennial conventions that led to the growth and consolidation of various programmes and projects. Among these stood out for its impact, the creation of the Finca El Retiro, which was also built an infrastructure and served as a base to promote a solid work aimed at food production under agro-ecological principles, empowerment of farmers and their families in key areas as the production of organic fertilizers, the use of natural barriers to pests and diseases , the techniques of food preservation with natural methods and direct participation in food aid to numerous social sectors (hospitals and polyclinics, homes of elderly, MWh, House of children without schools and branch amparo) especially the most vulnerable in the community of Cardenas.
